Windscreen Repair & Replacement
Windscreen repair
We prefer to fix your existing windscreen rather than
replace it since it saves you time and money.
If you have a windscreen chip, you should have it checked
and repaired as soon as possible because it could fracture at any time.
Repairing a chip will strengthen your windscreen and restore its stability,
which will help prevent subsequent cracks.
Repair or replace?
To repair
a windscreen chip, it must meet certain criteria, including:
·
For Enhanced
Motors to be able to fix the chips, they must be at least 5cm from the edge
of the windscreen.
·
Is the stone chip on the driver's side
If the chip is in the driver's critical vision area and is
in a star formation (the most common type), the entire chip (including all
off-shooting cracks) must be less than a $1 coin or 15 mm across to be
repaired.
·
Is the stone chip on the passenger's side?
If the chip is in a star configuration in front of
the passenger, the entire chip (including all off-shooting cracks) must be
smaller than 30 mm, or a $2 coin.
·
Is there a camera fixed on the windscreen of
your car?
If the chip is in the camera's line of view,
a full windscreen replacement may be
required in newer vehicles with forward-facing cameras positioned on the
windscreen. This can sometimes cause the camera in the vehicle's onboard safety
system to malfunction.
Upon viewing your windscreen, your Enhanced
Motors specialist will verify all of these items (along with a few more
technical ones) and conduct a thorough inspection to decide if it is ready for an
Enhanced Motors repair. For example,
we must examine the number of previous repairs as well as the shape of the
damage, as the NZ standard has stricter restrictions for chips that are shaped
like a crater or bullseye rather than a star.
What's the point of repairing a windscreen chip?
Chip repairs are less expensive and are frequently covered by insurance.
If you are fully insured, having your chip
fixed may cost you nothing, and we can typically handle the claims process for
you.
If you don't have insurance and have to pay
for the chip repair yourself, it'll be far less expensive than a full
automobile windscreen replacement, which may be necessary if the chip splits.
Small chips can grow into big fissures, necessitating a complete
replacement.
A windscreen chip can turn into a fracture
at any time, and it usually happens when you least expect it. Even regular road
vibrations can produce an accumulation of damage, which over time could turn
that small chip into a crack.
A chip might also be exacerbated by sudden
shocks or temperature changes. If the glass is hot and you switch on the air
conditioner, the chilling impact of the air conditioner on the heated glass can
cause a chip and the glass to break.
Windscreen damage can be repaired quickly.
A chip may be repaired in half an hour, but
a windscreen replacement can take up
to three hours.
Reduce your chances of failing a WOF.
If a windscreen chip is larger than 15mm and
in the driver's line of view, your car may fail its Warrant of Fitness
inspection.
Our warranty covers windshield repairs.
Our countrywide guarantee covers all Enhanced Motors repairs for the life of
your vehicle. In some circumstances, attempting to repair a chip in a
windscreen can exacerbate the problem. This is due to small micro cracks
forming as a result of the first hit, and is not due to our skilled
technician's error. In this unusual circumstance, the cost of the chip repair
will be deducted from the cost of a new windscreen from Enhanced Motors.
Repairing the damage will restore the strength of your windscreen.
The passenger airbag relies on the windscreen
to give support if the airbag deploys, and the windscreen offers up to 30% of
the structural strength of your vehicle. Repairing
a windscreen chip restores the strength of your windscreen.
